Dr. Kavita Patel is a primary care physician in Washington DC and a nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution. She previously served as a director of policy in the White House under President Obama and was a senior advisor to the late Senator Edward Kennedy. Kavita’s research in healthcare quality and community approaches to mental illness have earned national recognition and she has published numerous papers and book chapters on healthcare reform and health policy. She has testified before Congress multiple times and has appeared as an expert on NPR, CBS, NBC and MSNBC. Kavita serves on the editorial board of the journal Health Affairs.
