Navitus’ 100 percent transparent business model and commitment to program stewardship for clients and their members, were key drawing points that convinced Alan Van Amber to join Navitus. As the Vice President of Pharmacy Network Development, Van Amber is able to utilize that business model to expand and strengthen the company’s range of distribution networks and strategies. With Navitus since 2007, Van Amber directs the execution of strategies for procurement of pharmacy services through the retail, mail and specialty channels to provide the best value to clients and members. Van Amber also leads a team dedicated to ensuring Navitus’ members are serviced by quality providers and contributes to the Executive team to formulate and refine strategy for all distribution channels. Van Amber also oversees Navitus’ e-prescribing program, providing strategic input on delivering appropriate clinical information to prescribers to enhance the member experience at the point of care. Prior to joining Navitus, Van Amber spent eight years at Prime Therapeutics in Eagan, Minn., where he held several senior-level positions, including Vice President of Pharmacy Network Management, Senior Director of Pharmacy Network Management and Director of Pharmacy Provider Relations. During his tenure with Prime Therapeutics, he contracted with provider pharmacies for Medicare Part D, generated multi-million-dollar network savings value from market-leading discounts and secured favorable dispensing fee agreements. Before this, Van Amber was a Clinical Account Manager with PCS Health Systems in Bloomington, Minn., where he developed and maintained formularies to control clients’ spending on drug costs. For many years after obtaining his registered pharmacist license, Van Amber worked in retail pharmacy environments in both pharmacist and management positions. Active in the pharmaceutical community, Alan is a member of the National Council of Prescription Drug Programs, the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, the Minnesota Pharmacists Association and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. Alan holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota. He also earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium.
